civic innovations
During the Fall of 1994, the Forum sponsored "Civic Innovations" an open design competition which seeks to influence the design of modest elements found on every street throughout Los Angeles. Competition categories include bus shelters, street lighting, public restrooms in public parks, and an information stand for newspapers, community identity signs, bus signage, trash receptacles, telephones, etc. Entries were judged by a jury which included several city representatives, an artist, architects, a graphics designer, etc. An exhibition of selected design proposals was to be held at the Bridge Gallery in Los Angeles City Hall and then travelled to UCLA Extension's Design Center in Santa Monica.
