Please join us and the architects Jooyoung Chung and En Jang to tour their new ADU project, kicking off the L.A. Forum’s ADU (Accessory Dwelling Unit) Tour Series to continue into 2024.
2340 Yosemite is the conversion of an existing garage to an ADU. The initial design was driven by rethinking the ADU: not as a second house that belongs to the main house, an “accessory”, but as a house with its own character.
The tour will feature these unique aspects of the design, and more:
A distinct, welcoming walkway for renters of the ADU.
Oversized skylights used for natural light and to preserve privacy by eliminating the need for windows into the shared backyard.
Intimate outdoor space for a vegetable garden or other use.
Exterior walls are treated using a traditional Korean “Jongseok Mijang” technique of scraped cement/gravel, which creates a textured, energy-efficient finish.
The walls are designed to absorb passive heat, limiting mechanical systems.
Smooth white painted MDO panels and aluminum exterior finish contrast with the cement/gravel finish. The courtyard pavers continue the same aesthetic as the walls.
Turfstone permeable pavers allow rainwater to be filtered back into the soil gradually and naturally, stabilizing soil erosion.
